International Women’s Day 2021
The Centre is organising a number of events to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.
Dr Anna Powell is hosting a round-table discussion with members of our centre leadership team, exploring some of the issues affecting women across the world today, including the impact of Covid-19 and the continuing global pandemic of gender-based violence. We will be sharing video highlights of this discussion across our social media channels and inviting our followers to join the debate about the challenges women face in the world today.
Our UK Country Director, Gill Kirkman, and colleagues from our UK research team are hosting an online Policy Forum Event on Monday 8th March. This event will highlight key findings from our UK research into intimate partner violence and share policy recommendations derived from this work. We are delighted to welcome a number of guest speakers, including Jess Phillips MP (Shadow Secretary for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding), Nicole Jacobs (Designate Domestic Abuse Commissioner) and Dr Emma Katz, who will present her latest work on the impact of domestic abuse on children. We hope their voices will have a powerful influence over the day.
Delegates at the event include representatives from the Home Office, local and national police and local government. This is a unique opportunity to share key findings from our UK research and to speak directly to those in power about the life-changing (and life-saving) potential of our work. It is also an opportunity for all delegates to see an exclusive short preview of the UK game, which we are confident will be an effective intervention in changing young peoples attitudes and behaviours towards violence and abuse within their dating relationships.
Across our global centre, colleagues in each of our study countries have been sharing their contributions to this year’s IWD #choosetochallenge campaign. We are proud of our dedicated colleagues and the ways in which they confront gender inequalities in both their personal and professional lives. We will be posting their photos, quotes and videos across our social media channels on the day.
